The Visual Arts Program

The ART DEPARTMENT at Bergen Center for Child Development offers a variety of creative experiences for our exceptional students. Projects involve hands-on activities such as drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, textiles, designs and mixed media. Students are encouraged to explore and develop multi-step processes, which result in unique and exciting art forms and products.

The Music Program

THE MUSIC DEPARTMENT provides opportunities for students to discover and explore methods of self-expression through music. Music instruction is necessary for the overall social and emotional development of each student. Music is also used as a tool to teach skills in other disciplines (i.e. language development, social studies). Opportunities in both vocal and instrumental music are made available to all students.

Students are also given opportunities to express themselves through instruments. The instruments available include piano, recorder, guitar, and numerous percussion instruments. Students are taught basic note reading skills systematically through a variety of exercises that are geared for the intellectual level of the student.

Physical Education

Our Physical Education Fitness Program offers a variety of sports activities to teach our students about skills and sportsmanship. Some of the activities include: basketball, balloon volleyball, floor tennis, football, and floor hockey. Our students also have the opportunity to participate on our co-ed basketball team. Intramural sport tournaments are held at the end of each Physical Education Unit and the winning teams play against faculty.

BCCD SCHOOL BASKETBALL TEAM What a wonderful opportunity for youngsters to work together. These games are played with other private schools, providing our students with an opportunity to meet peers outside of the Bergen Center environment. Interested students may also participate in cheerleading. This encourages appropriate behavior, sportsmanship and friendship building.

OTHER SPECIAL SPORTS EVENTS In March, a Winter Olympics is held. In June, a Field Day picnic is held with a barbecue for the whole family.
