February was a busy month for the Bergen Center! Early in the month, students took a field trip to Chuck E. Cheese to enjoy interactive arcade games, prizes, and pizza for lunch. A fun time was had by all, as students were able to play with friends in other classes that they don’t always get to see during the school day.

Later in the week, Mr. Tyler and Ms. Jenny took each class to make pretzel bites, and play Would You Rather: Super Bowl Edition, to get ready for the big game! Students enjoyed getting to cook, choosing whether they wanted sweet or salty pretzel bites, and most importantly, eating their creations!

The following week, the school held its annual Valentine’s Day party with different activities and crafts to participate in. Students decorated heart shaped cookies and picture frames, received temporary tattoos, and got to read Valentine cards from their classmates. The most exciting part of the day was getting to take photos with Mr. Tyler in a heart costume.

After President’s Day break, it was time for picture day for both students and staff. This occasion was particularly special for our graduating students, who got to take photos in their caps and gowns for the first time.

Staff Member of the Month

ree

Each month, we’d like to highlight the staff members and students that make the Bergen Center community so special. Our first featured staff member of the month is Mr. Tyler, the school social worker and a case manager. Mr. Tyler is famous for dressing up in various costumes at Bergen Center holiday parties, which he says are some of his favorite memories at BCCD. Mr. Tyler completed his undergraduate education at Ramapo College, where he majored in social sciences, and minored in psychology and substance abuse. He then went on to receive his Master in Social Work from NYU, and has been working at the Bergen Center for a year and a half. Mr. Tyler is an important part of our school, as he teaches social skills groups and lends an ear to students facing challenges. When asked what he is most looking forward to for the rest of the school year, Mr. Tyler is most excited about graduation, and seeing what the future holds for our five graduating students.
