We are excited to share some local upcoming events sponsored by The Alliance of Private Special Education Schools of New Jersey! In partnership with ASAH, The Alliance provides guidance, support, and resources to parents of special education students across the state. Advocates at The Alliance can help parents review IEPs, assessments and evaluations, prepare for IEP meetings, navigate the special education system, and preserve an effective placement for a student. The Bergen Center is a proud member of both The Alliance and ASAH.
The Alliance will be holding a Family Fun Day and Special Needs Resource Fair on Sunday, October 19th at William Paterson University! The fair will feature more than 60 special education providers including schools, camps, therapies, transition services, fianancial and legal support, and advocacy and family support. ASAH will be holding their 46th Annual Conference on Monday, October 27th at the Hyatt Regency in New Brunswick! This year's conference will be featuring a Parent Track, which will be providing workshops on Connecting Students with Disabilities to Adult Services, Advocacy Strategies Learned from Both Sides of the Table, and Behavior Interventions at Home to Manage Behavior & Foster Independence. Throughout the fall and winter, The Alliance will also be hosting a virtual parent advoacy series. Topics include transitioning to adult services, assessing functional life skills, and the role of assessments and professionals in out-of-district placements.
